अल्लाह तआला ने फरिश्तों को अक़्ल (बुद्धि) दी लेकिन ख्वाहिशात (इच्छाएं) नहीं दीं, जानवरों को ख्वाहिशात दीं लेकिन अक़्ल नहीं दी, और आदम की औलाद (इंसान) को ये दोनों चीजें दीं। इसलिए जिस इंसान की अक़्ल उसकी ख्वाहिशों पर भारी पड़ जाए, वह फरिश्तों से बेहतर है; और जिसकी ख्वाहिशें उसकी अक़्ल पर हावी हो जाएं, वह जानवरों से भी बदतर है।

Allah, the Exalted, gave the angels intellect without desires, He gave the animals desires without intellect, and He gave both to the sons of Adam. So a man whose intellect prevails over his desires is better than the angels, whilst a man whose desire prevails over his intellect is worse than the animals.

You should desire for others what you desire for yourself, and hate for others what you hate for yourself. Do not oppress, just as you do not like to be oppressed. Do good to others just as you would like good to be done to you. Dislike in yourself what you dislike in others. Accept that treatment from others which you would like others to accept from you. Do not say to others what you do not like to be said to you.

उन गुनाहों से डरो जो तुम छुपकर करते हो, क्योंकि उन गुनाहों का गवाह खुद इंसाफ करने वाला (अल्लाह) है!

Fear the sins that you commit in secret, because the Witness of those sins is the Judge Himself!

Do not raise your children the way your parents raised you; they were born for a different time.

If you find that somebody is not grateful for all that you have done for him, then do not get disappointed because often you will find that someone else feels under your obligation though you have done nothing for him and thus your good deeds will be compensated, and Allah will reward you for your goodness.

Bear sorrows and calamities patiently, otherwise you will never be happy.

A man's worth depends upon the nobility of his aspirations.

How many lessons there are and how little they are taken

दिखावे से धोखा न खाएं, क्योंकि ये अक्सर झूठे साबित होते हैं।

Do not be misled by appearances for these are apt to be deceptive.

जो जन्नत की चाह रखता है, वह भलाई की ओर बढ़ता है; जो जर्क (नरक) से डरता है, वह अपनी बुरी इच्छाओं को रोक लेता है; जो मौत पर पक्का यकीन रखता है, उसे दुनियादारी से नफरत हो जाती है; और जो इस दुनिया की असलियत को पहचान लेता है, उसके लिए जीवन के तमाम दुख और मुसीबतें आसान हो जाती हैं।

Whoever desires Paradise, proceeds towards goodness; whoever fears Hell, refrains from the impulses of passions; whoever believes firmly in death, detests wordly life; and whoever recognises the worldly life, the trials and tribulations (of life) become slight for him.

ऐसे लोगों जैसे मत बनिए जिन पर सलाह का कोई असर नहीं पड़ता और जिन्हें सुधारने के लिए सजा की जरूरत पड़ती है।

Do not be like those on whom advice has no effect and who require punishment to correct themselves.

बिना आस्था के धन दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी गरीबी है।

Riches without faith are the greatest poverty.

नमस्ते! आपकी सेवा में हाज़िर हूँ। बताइए, मैं आपकी किस प्रकार सहायता कर सकता हूँ?

If you are greeted then return the greetings more warmly. If you are favored, then repay the obligation manifold; but he who takes the initiative will always excel in merit.

यदि कोई आपका अभिवादन करे तो उसका अभिवादन और अधिक प्रेम से करें। यदि कोई आपके प्रति उपकार करे, तो उसका कई गुना बदला चुकाएं; किंतु पहल करने वाला व्यक्ति हमेशा श्रेष्ठता में आगे रहता है।

Of all the follies the greatest is to love the world.

दुनिया से मोहब्बत करना तमाम मूर्खताओं में सबसे बड़ी मूर्खता है।

Perfecting one's intellect causes one to speak less, and those words spoken will be adorned with wisdom.

बुद्धि के परिपक्व होने पर इंसान कम बोलता है, और उसके मुँह से निकले शब्द ज्ञान से सजे होते हैं।

He who is greedy is disgraced; he who discloses his hardship will always be humiliated; he who has no control over his tongue will often have to face discomfort.

जो लालची है वह अपमानित होता है, जो अपनी कठिनाई बयान करता है वह हमेशा ज़िल्लत उठाता है, और जिसकी अपनी ज़बान पर काबू नहीं है उसे अक्सर परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ता है।

Oh writer! An Angel watches over all you write. Make your writing meaningful for it will eventually return to you and you will be questioned about what you wrote.

ऐ लेखक! जो कुछ भी तू लिखता है, एक फरिश्ता उसकी निगरानी कर रहा है। अपनी लिखावट को सार्थक बना, क्योंकि आखिरकार वह तेरे पास लौट कर आएगी और जो तूने लिखा है उसके बारे में तुझसे सवाल किया जाएगा।

Know you that Allah has made Islam the most sublime path for attainment of His supreme pleasure and the highest standards of his worship and obedience. He has favoured it with noble precepts, exalted principles, undoubtable arguments, unchallengeable supremacy and undeniable wisdom. It is up to you to maintain the eminence and dignity granted to it by the Lord, to follow it sincerely, to do justice to its articles of faith and belief, to obey implicitly its tenets and orders and to give it the proper place in your lives.

क्या तुम नहीं जानते कि अल्लाह ने इस्लाम को अपनी सर्वोच्च प्रसन्नता पाने का, अपनी इबादत और आज्ञाकारिता के उच्चतम मानकों का सबसे बेहतरीन मार्ग बनाया है। उसने इसे नेक उपदेशों, बुलंद उसूलों, अटूट तर्कों, अजेय प्रभुत्व और अकाट्य ज्ञान से नवाज़ा है। यह तुम पर है कि तुम इसके द्वारा दिए गए सम्मान और गरिमा को बनाए रखो, पूरी ईमानदारी से इसका पालन करो, इसके विश्वास और अकीदे के उसूलों पर खरे उतरो, इसके नियमों और आदेशों का आँख मूँदकर पालन करो और इसे अपने जीवन में उचित स्थान दो।

I was not created to be occupied by eating delicious foods like tied up cattle.

मुझे किसी बँधे हुए जानवर की तरह सिर्फ स्वादिष्ट भोजन खाने के लिए नहीं पैदा किया गया है।

Many a spoken word is more piercing than an attack.

कई बार बोली गई बात किसी वार से भी ज़्यादा ज़ख्म देती है।

The disease of the heart is worse than the disease of the body.

दिल की बीमारी जिस्म की बीमारी से बदतर होती है।

There is no knowledge and science like pondering and thought; and there is no prosperity and advancement like knowledge and science.

चिंतन और मनन जैसा कोई ज्ञान और विज्ञान नहीं है; और ज्ञान तथा विज्ञान जैसी कोई समृद्धि और उन्नति नहीं है।

Had there not been five bad qualities, all the people would have been righteous. Contentment with ignorance; love for worldly life; miserliness inspite of much wealth; ostentation in (good) deeds; and pride in their own intelligence.

अगर पाँच बुरी आदतें न होतीं, तो सारे लोग नेकी के रास्ते पर होते: अज्ञानता से संतुष्टि; दुनियावी ज़िंदगी से मोहब्बत; ढेरों दौलत होने के बावजूद कंजूसी; (अच्छे) कामों में दिखावा; और अपनी समझ पर घमंड।

A man is hid under his tongue.

इंसान अपनी ज़बान के पीछे छिपा होता है।

Beware of the flight of Blessings, For nothing that runs away is returned.

रौशनी और नेमतों के छिन जाने से डरो, क्योंकि जो चीज़ चली जाती है, वह वापस नहीं लौटती।

There is no nobility with bad manners.

बुरे आचरण के साथ कोई बड़प्पन नहीं होता।

He who guards his secrets retains control in his own hands

जो व्यक्ति अपने रहस्यों को छुपा कर रखता है, वाक़ई उसकी लगाम उसी के हाथों में रहती है।

To whatever extent a person's knowledge increases, his attention will be turned more towards his soul.

इंसान का ज्ञान जितना बढ़ता है, उसका ध्यान अपनी आत्मा की ओर उतना ही ज़्यादा केंद्रित होता है।

Glory is for none but the learned, Guided are they - and proofs for seekers of guidance. Every person is measured based on how much of it (knowledge) he mastered, The ignorant are to the learned their enemies, Succeed with knowledge and live energetically forever, Men are all dead, only the possessors of knowledge are truly alive

शोहरत और बड़प्पन केवल विद्वानों के लिए है, वे ही मार्गदर्शित हैं और मार्गदर्शन चाहने वालों के लिए प्रमाण हैं। हर व्यक्ति का मूल्यांकन इस बात से होता है कि उसने ज्ञान में कितनी महारत हासिल की है, अज्ञानी लोग विद्वानों के दुश्मन हैं, ज्ञान के साथ सफलता प्राप्त करें और हमेशा ऊर्जावान जीवन जिएं, सभी लोग मृत हैं, केवल ज्ञान वाले ही वास्तव में जीवित हैं

In this world, man is a target of death, an easy prey to calamities, here every morsel and every draught is liable to choke one, here one never receives a favour until he loses another instead, here every additional day in one's life is a day reduced from the total span of his existence, when death is the natural outcome of life, how can we expect immortality.

इस दुनिया में इंसान मौत का निशाना है, आपदाओं का आसान शिकार है, यहाँ हर निवाला और घूँट गले में फँस सकता है; यहाँ किसी को कोई नेमत तब तक नहीं मिलती जब तक कि वह इसके बदले दूसरी न खो दे; यहाँ ज़िंदगी का हर बढ़ता हुआ दिन असल में उसकी कुल उम्र से एक दिन कम होना है। जब मौत ज़िंदगी का तयशुदा अंजाम है, तो हम अमरता की उम्मीद कैसे कर सकते हैं?

To maintain nice relation with the people is half of intelligence, nice questioning is half of knowledge, and nice domestic arrangements is half of the management of livelihood.

लोगों के साथ अच्छे रिश्ते निभाना आधी समझ है, अच्छे सवाल पूछना आधा ज्ञान है, और घर-गृहस्ती का अच्छा प्रबंधन आजीविका की आधी व्यवस्था है।

Patience to faith is like the head to the body. The person who has no patience has not faith.

ईमान के लिए सब्र का वही मक़ाम है जो जिस्म के लिए सिर का है। जिस शख्स में सब्र नहीं, उसका कोई ईमान नहीं।

There are so many highly esteemed ones who became miserable and humiliated just because of their bad temper and morals; and humble people who have attained eminence and the highest honors because of good temper and morals.

कितने ही ऐसे प्रतिष्ठित लोग हैं जो सिर्फ अपने बुरे स्वभाव और आचरण की वजह से बर्बाद और अपमानित हो गए; और कितने ही साधारण लोग हैं जो अपने अच्छे स्वभाव और आचरण की वजह से बुलंदी और सर्वोच्च सम्मान तक पहुँचे।

Greed takes a person to the watering place but gets him back without letting him drink. It undertakes responsibility but does not fulfill it. Often the drinker gets choked before quenching his thirst. The greater the worth of a thing yearned for, the greater is the grief for its loss. Desires blind the eyes of understanding. The destined share would reach him who does not approach it.

लालच इंसान को पानी के घाट तक ले तो जाता है, लेकिन उसे बिना पानी पिए ही वापस ले आता है। वह ज़िम्मेदारी तो उठाता है, पर उसे निभाता नहीं। अक्सर प्यास बुझाने से पहले ही पीने वाले का दम घुट जाता है। जिस चीज़ की चाहत जितनी ज़्यादा होती है, उसके खोने का गम भी उतना ही बड़ा होता है। इच्छाएं समझ की आँखों को अंधी कर देती हैं। किस्मत का तय हिस्सा उस तक भी पहुँच जाता है जो उसके पीछे नहीं जाता।

One who thinks and reflects develops his foresight and vision.

जो व्यक्ति सोच-विचार करता है, उसकी दूरदर्शिता और दृष्टि विकसित होती है।

"The best form of devotion to the service of Allah is not to make a show of it."

"अल्लाह की इबादत का सबसे बेहतरीन तरीका यह है कि उसका दिखावा न किया जाए।"

Either you are just or unjust. If you are just, then you will not keep aloof from the people, but will listen to them and meet their requirements. But if you are unjust, the people themselves will keep away from you.

या तो तुम न्यायप्रिय हो या फिर अन्यायी। यदि तुम न्यायप्रिय हो, तो लोगों से दूरी नहीं बनाओगे, बल्कि उनकी बात सुनोगे और उनकी ज़रूरतें पूरी करोगे। लेकिन यदि तुम अन्यायी हो, तो लोग खुद-ब-खुद तुमसे दूर हो जाएंगे।

The relation of patience to iman is like the relation of the head to the body. If the head is chopped off, the body becomes useless. Then he raised his voice and said: Certainly, the one who has no patience has no iman, and patience is like a riding-beast that nevers gets tired

ईमान के साथ सब्र का रिश्ता वैसा ही है जैसे जिस्म के साथ सिर का रिश्ता होता है। अगर सिर काट दिया जाए, तो जिस्म किसी काम का नहीं रहता। फिर उन्होंने आवाज़ बुलंद करके कहा: यकीनन, जिस शख्स में सब्र नहीं, उसका कोई ईमान नहीं, और सब्र उस सवारी की तरह है जो कभी थकती नहीं।

A man's behavior is the index of the man, and his discourse is the index of his understanding.

इंसान का व्यवहार उसके व्यक्तित्व का आईना होता है, और उसकी बातचीत उसकी समझ का पैमाना होती है।

An alert and learned man will take advice from any event.

एक चौकस और समझदार इंसान हर घटना से कोई न कोई सबक लेता है।

Let me alone, and go in search of someone else.

मुझे मेरे हाल पर छोड़ दो, और किसी और की तलाश में निकल जाओ।

Abstinence from sins is better than seeking help afterwards.

बाद में मदद मांगने से बेहतर है कि गुनाहों से बचा जाए।

The outcome of fear is disappointment and shyness is frustration.

डर का नतीजा निराशा है और झिँझक असफलता है।

Allah's Generosity is connected to gratitude, and gratitude is linked to increase in His generosity. The generosity of Allah will not stop increasing unless the gratitude of the servant ceases

अल्लाह की उदारता शुक्रगुजार्री से जुड़ी है, और शुक्रगुजार्री उनकी उदारता में वृद्धि से जुड़ी है। अल्लाह की उदारता तब तक बढ़ना बंद नहीं करती जब तक बंदे की शुक्रगुजार्री बंद नहीं होती

Associating with the wise and the knowledgeable people adds to the prestige of a person.

बुद्धिमान और ज्ञानी लोगों की संगति इंसान के मान-सम्मान में इज़ाफा करती है।

Be a good man to Allah and a bad man to yourself (desires); and be one of the commoners among the people

अल्लाह के लिए एक नेक इंसान बनो और अपनी (خواहिशों/इच्छाओं) के लिए बुरे; और लोगों के बीच एक आम इंसान की तरह रहो

When wisdom reaches the acme of perfection, it will suppress the vicious instincts and injurious desires.

जब बुद्धि अपनी पूर्णता की पराकाष्ठा पर पहुँच जाती है, तो वह बुरे संस्कारों और नुकसानदेह इच्छाओं को दबा देती है।

No one has ever suffered from his people as I have.

किसी को भी अपने लोगों से उतनी तकलीफ नहीं उठानी पड़ी जितनी मुझे उठानी पड़ी है।

Recitation of the Qur'an without contemplation and thought is futile.

बिना सोचे-समझे और गौर किए कुरआन पढ़ना बेकार है।

Thy lot or portion of life is seeking after thee; therefore be at rest from seeking after it.

तुम्हारी किस्मत या ज़िंदगी का हिस्सा खुद तुम्हारी तलाश में आ रहा है, इसलिए इसके पीछे भागने से सुकून से रहो।

One who is mild rather than forceful has greater capacity for outreach.

जो व्यक्ति सख़्त होने के बजाय नरम मिज़ाज होता है, उसमें लोगों तक पहुँचने की ज़्यादा क्षमता होती है।

He who busies himself with things other than improvement of his own self becomes perplexed in darkness and entangled in ruin. His evil spirits immerse him deep in vices and make his bad actions seem handsome.

जो व्यक्ति खुद को सुधारने के अलावा दूसरी चीज़ों में व्यस्त हो जाता है, वह अंधेरे में भटक जाता है और बरबादी के दलदल में फँस जाता है। उसके बुरे ख्यालात उसे गुनाहों में गहराई तक डुबो देते हैं और उसके बुरे कामों को भी उसे अच्छा दिखाने लगते हैं।

To make one good action succeed another, is the perfection of goodness.

एक अच्छे काम के बाद दूसरे अच्छे काम को अंजाम देना, नेकी की इंतहा है।

The one from among the Muslims who recites the Qur'an but in the end finds his way to hell, is considerd to be among those that have taken the word of Allah in jest.

मुसलमानों में से जो शख्स कुरआन पढ़ता है लेकिन अंत में जहन्नम का रास्ता चुनता है, उसे उन लोगों में शुमार किया जाता है जिन्होंने अल्लाह की बात को मज़ाक समझ रखा था।

One who rushes madly after inordinate desire, runs the risk of encountering destruction and death.

जो व्यक्ति अपनी बेलगाम इच्छाओं के पीछे पागल होकर दौड़ता है, वह विनाश और मौत के मुँह में जाने का खतरा मोल लेता है।

Reciter and listener of the Qur'an are alike in prize and reward.

कुरआन पढ़ने वाले और सुनने वाले दोनों को बराबर का सवाब और इनाम मिलता है।

An accepted deed is never small in Taqwa (consciousness of Allah), how can what has been accepted be small?

उस फूल की तरह बनो जो उस हाथ को भी खुशबू देता है जिसने उसे कुचल दिया हो।

Be like a flower that gives its fragrance even to the hand that crushed it.

गुस्से में कभी कोई फैसला न लें और खुशी में कभी कोई वादा न करें।

Never make a decision in anger and never make a promise in happiness.

पानी से शरीर पवित्र होता है, आंसुओं से अहंकार, ज्ञान से बुद्धि और प्रेम से आत्मा पवित्र होती है।

Body is purified by water. Ego by tears. Intellect is purified by knowledge. And soul is purified with love.

किसी से नफरत न करें, चाहे उन्होंने आपके साथ कितना भी बुरा क्यों न किया हो। चाहे आप कितने भी अमीर क्यों न हो जाएं, हमेशा सादगी से जीवन जिएं। ज़िंदगी चाहे जितनी भी कठिन हो, सकारात्मक सोच रखें। भले ही आपको थोड़ा मिला हो, पर दिल खोलकर दें। जो आपको भूल गए हैं उनसे रिश्ता बनाए रखें, जिन्होंने आपके साथ बुरा किया उन्हें माफ़ कर दें, और जिन्हें आप चाहते हैं उनके अच्छे भविष्य के लिए दुआ करना कभी न छोड़ें।

Hate no one, no matter how much they've wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become. Think positively, no matter how hard life is. Give much, even if you've been given little. Keep in touch with the ones who have forgotten you, and forgive who has wronged you, and do not stop praying for the best for those you love.

सुंदर दिखने वाले लोग हमेशा अच्छे नहीं होते, लेकिन अच्छे लोग हमेशा सुंदर होते हैं।

Beautiful people are not always good, but good people are always beautiful.

इंसान कितना अजीब और नासमझ है। वह दौलत कमाने में अपनी सेहत गंवा देता है, और फिर अपनी सेहत वापस पाने के लिए सारी दौलत लुटा देता है। वह अपने भविष्य की फिक्र में अपना आज बर्बाद कर देता है—लेकिन फिर भविष्य में अपने अतीत को याद करके रोता है। वह ऐसे जीता है जैसे उसे कभी मरना ही नहीं है, और ऐसे मरता है जैसे वह कभी पैदा ही नहीं हुआ था।

How strange and foolish is man. He looses his health in gaining wealth. Then to regain health he wastes his wealth. He ruins is present while worrying about his future - but weeps in the future by recalling his past. He lives as though death shall never come to him - but dies in a way as if he were never born.

हमारी सबसे बुरी आदत यह है कि हमें दूसरों की कमियों में बहुत दिलचस्पी होती है।

The worst of our faults is our interest in other people's faults.

सबसे बेहतरीन बदला यह है कि आप खुद को बेहतर बनाएं।

The best revenge is to improve yourself.

निराशावादी इंसान को हर अवसर में मुश्किलें नजर आती हैं, जबकि आशावादी इंसान को हर मुश्किल में अवसर दिखाई देता है।

A hopeless man sees difficulties in every chance, but a hopeful person sees chances in every difficulty.

अधिकार, ताकत और दौलत इंसान को बदलते नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे सिर्फ उसका असली रूप सामने लाते हैं।

Authority, power, and wealth do not change a man; they only reveal him

तेरा इलाज तेरे ही भीतर है, पर तू उसे महसूस नहीं करता। तेरी बीमारी तुझ से ही है, पर तू उसे समझ नहीं पाता। तू खुद को एक छोटी सी हस्ती समझता है, जबकि पूरी कायनात तुझ में समाई हुई है। तू ही वह खुली हुई किताब है, जिसके अक्षरों से छुपी हुई बातें जाहिर होती हैं। इसलिए तुझे खुद से बाहर देखने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है, जो तू ढूंढ रहा है वह तुझ में ही है, बशर्ते तू गौर करे।

Your Remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your Sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it. You Presume you are a small entity, But within you is enfolded the entire universe. You are indeed the evident book, By whose alphabet the hidden becomes the manifest. Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself, What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.

जिंदगी के दिन बादलों की तरह गुजर जाते हैं, इसलिए जब तक जिंदा हैं अच्छे कर्म कर लीजिए।
