Jesus modelled that we don’t need to talk about everything we’ve done. It’s like He’s saying, what if we were just to do awesome, incredible stuff together while we’re here on earth and the fact that only He knew would be enough? If we did, we wouldn’t get confused about who was really making things happen. Not surprisingly, we’d get a lot more done too, because we wouldn’t care who’s looking or taking credit. All that energy would be funnelled into awesomeness.

I know that sounds so circular, but for you, what you were made to do, is different than what I was made to do. But instead of spending all of our time having Bible studies about what we were made to do, go do stuff and you'll figure out what you were made to do, because you'll be great at some things and you'll be terrible at others.

मुझे नहीं लगता कि कोई भी इंसान सचमुच आम या साधारण बनना चाहता है। ज़्यादातर लोग तो स्कूल या कॉलेज के दिनों में ही खुद से यह वादा करते हैं कि वे लीक से हटकर जिएंगे। लेकिन फिर भी, जाने-अनजाने वे उसी पुरानी राह पर लौट आते हैं। किसी एम्यूज़मेंट पार्क की गोल-गोल घूमने वाली ट्रेन की पटरी की तरह, हमारे जाने-पहचाने रास्ते हमें एक झूठी सुरक्षा, निश्चितता और इत्मीनान का अहसास कराते हैं। पर दिक्कत यह है कि ये रास्ते हमें वहीं ले जाते हैं जहाँ हम पहले से जा चुके हैं। ये हमें वहीं घुमाकर ले आते हैं जहाँ हर कोई आसानी से पहुँच सकता है, न कि वहाँ जहाँ असल में हमें पहुँचना चाहिए था। एक अलग और सार्थक ज़िंदगी जीने के लिए जिगर, हिम्मत और दुनिया को देखने का एक नया नज़रिया चाहिए होता है।

I don't think anyone aims to be typical, really. Most people even vow to themselves some time in high school or college not to be typical. But still, they just kind of loop back to it somehow. Like the circular rails of a train at an amusement park, the scripts we know offer a brand of security, of predictability, of safety for us. But the problem is, they only take us where we've already been. They loop us back to places where everyone can easily go, not necessarily where we were made to go. Living a different kind of life takes some guts and grit and a new way of seeing things.

उन चीज़ों के पीछे अपनी ऊर्जा लगाओ जो हमेशा कायम रहती हैं।

Be ambitious about things that last.

जब आप यीशु की तरह लोगों से प्यार करते हैं, तो ज़िंदगी थोड़ी उलझनों भरी हो जाती है। लेकिन ये उलझनें आप पर खूब फबती हैं!

When you love people like Jesus, you get messy. But messy looks good on you!

Jesus never told His friends to play it safe.

Love finds us where we are, not where we were.

प्यार सिर्फ़ इसके बारे में सोचता नहीं रहता या इसकी योजनाएँ नहीं बनाता रहता... सीधी सी बात है: प्यार करके दिखाता है!

Love doesn't just keep thinking about it or keep planning for it... Simply put: Love does!

एक आस्तिक के रूप में हमारा कर्तव्य यही है—हर किसी से हमेशा प्यार करो!

Here's our job as believers, love everybody ALWAYS!

हम इस पूरी दुनिया के लिए भगवान की एक बहुत बड़ी योजना का हिस्सा हैं। जिस तरह भगवान के बेटे ने इस दुनिया में कदम रखा था, वैसे ही आप भी आए हैं। और यीशु के आने के बाद, भगवान ने पूरी मानवता से फुसफुसा कर कहा, "अब तुम्हारी बारी है।"

We're part of God's much bigger plan for the whole world. Just like God's Son arrived here, so did you. And after Jesus arrived, God whispered to all of humanity “It's your move.

Jesus is nuts about kids. He doesn't seem to think much of lawyers which really lands close to home, but He's nuts about kids and loves justice.

आस्था यह पता लगाने का नाम नहीं है कि हम क्या करने में सक्षम हैं, बल्कि यह तय करने का नाम है कि हम क्या करके रहेंगे—भले ही हमें लगे कि हम यह नहीं कर सकते।

Faith isn't figuring out what we're able to do, it's deciding what we're going to do - even when we think we can't.

Whimsy doesn't care if you are the driver or the passenger; all that matters is that you are on your way.

We'll never honor Christ if we forget how to honor each other.

God's grace comes in all shapes, sizes, and circumstances as God continues to unfold something magnificent in me.

Fear calls out our doubts; God calls out our names.

ईश्वर के मार्ग पर चलने का अर्थ है जीवन में लगातार रुकावटें आना।

Living a life of following Christ means constant interruptions.

अपने आस-पास ऐसी चीजें रखिए जो आपको यह याद दिलाती रहें कि यीशु कौन हैं।

Surround yourself with prompts that remind you who Jesus is.

प्रेम की एक बात यह भी है कि वह किसी सीमा को नहीं मानता और हमारे बनाए नियमों की कभी परवाह नहीं करता।

That's one of the things about love. It doesn't recognize boundaries and never obeys the rules we try to give it.

God isn't afraid of our doubts; He's way more concerned when we fake it.

We might be known for what we believed, but we're certain to be remembered for what we did about it.

It's easy to confuse a lot of activity with a purposeful life. Do what lasts; let the rest fall away.

उम्मीद का उथला किनारा अक्सर कृपा का गहरा समंदर होता है।

The shallow end of hope is usually the deep end of grace.

पूरी तरह से रम कर, मौज-मस्ती के साथ और वैसे ही काम करना जैसे प्रेम करता है—यह एक ऐसा जीवन है जिसे जीने की योजना ज्यादातर लोग बनाते हैं, पर सफर में कहीं भूल जाते हैं। उनके सपने "अगلی बार चलेंगे" जैसी टालमटोल बन कर रह जाते हैं। दुख की बात यह है कि बहुत से लोगों के लिए कोई "اگلی बार" नहीं आता, क्योंकि इस तरह हर मौके को टाल देना किसी एक फैसले की बात नहीं, बल्कि ज़िंदगी जीने का उनका एक रवैया बन जाता है।

Living a life fully engaged and full of whimsy and the kind of things that love does is something most people plan to do, but along the way they just kind of forget. Their dreams become one of those "we'll go there next time" deferrals. The sad thing is, for many there is no "next time" because passing on the chance to cross over is an overall attitude toward life rather than a single decision.

सीधे शब्दों में कहें तो: प्रेम सिर्फ बातें नहीं करता, कुछ कर के दिखाता है।

Simply put: love does.

Next to grace, I bet God thinks making us need each other was one of His best ideas.

If we pick recognition over influence we'll be known for all the wrong stuff.

Most of us have all the information we need. What we need is more passion.

I used to think life could be shared with anyone, but now I know choosing the right people is pretty important.

We get to be God's plan for the whole world by pointing people toward Him.

When it feels like we need to choose between being right and being humble- pick both

मैंने सीखा कि आस्था का मतलब हर बात की सही जानकारी होना या नियमों की सूची का पालन करना नहीं है। यह उससे कहीं बढ़कर है, यह बहुत कीमत चुकाने जैसा है क्योंकि इसमें पूरी तरह मौजूद रहना और त्याग करना शामिल है।

I learned that faith isn’t about knowing all of the right stuff or obeying a list of rules. It’s something more, something more costly because it involves being present and making a sacrifice.

When you identify with an organization and you want to do stuff [but] you get this inexplicable 'no' - a lot of people get off the end and think, Well, God must have said no to me. No! The organization just said no to you. Find what it is that you were made to do and get on it! Go do what you were made to do.

When you are in high school, you don't give much thought to what you can't do. For most people, that gets learned later, and for still fewer, gets unlearned for the rest of life.

That's one of those things about love. It always assumes it can find a way to express itself.

अक्सर हम दिखावा करते हैं। डरो मत। जैसे हो वैसे ही रहो। उस बुलाहट के लायक ज़िंदगी जियो जो तुम्हें मिली है।

Too often we are posers. Don't be afraid. Be you. Live a life worthy of the calling YOU'VE received.

यीशु ने हमें जो करने को कहा है, वह है लीक से हटकर जीना।

What Jesus said we could do is leave typical behind.

...हमें सिर्फ योजनाएँ बनाते रहने के बजाय, अपनी योजनाओं को ज़मीन पर उतारना होगा और अपने विश्वास को असल अंजाम तक पहुँचाना होगा ताकि हम बदलाव ला सकें।

...we need to stop plotting the course and instead just land the plane on our plans to make a difference by getting to the "do" part of faith.

गरीबों और दीन-दुखियों का जश्न मनाने के लिए भगवान हमारे पद और उपलब्धियों के काग़ज़ के टुकड़े उड़ाकर उन्हें रंग-बिरंगे काग़ज़ (कन्फेटी) की तरह बिखेर देते हैं।

God makes confetti out of our titles and accomplishments to celebrate the poor and the humble.

क्या चर्च में तरह-तरह की समस्याएँ हैं? बिल्कुल हैं, क्योंकि यह मुझ जैसे इंसानों से ही तो बना है, इसलिए मैं इस बात को अच्छी तरह समझता हूँ। लेकिन चर्च के बारे में मुझे बस इतनी ही बात जाननी है कि यीशु ने उसे चुना है।

Does the church have all kinds of problems? You bet, because it's made up of people like me, so I get that part too. But all I need to know about the church is that Jesus picked her.

When love is a theory, it's safe, it's free of risk. But love in the brain changes nothing.

एक शरारत और एक दुस्साहसिक कारनामे (caper) में अंतर होता है। शरारत वैसी है जैसे किसी की डोरबेल बजाई और झाड़ियों में जाकर छुप गए, समझे ना? वह एक शरारत है। उसका कोई दूरगामी असर नहीं होता, जैसे स्कूल के प्रिंसिपल की कार को जिम की छत पर उठा कर रख देना। यह सब मज़ाकिया लग सकता है, पर इसका कोई मतलब नहीं होता और यह कभी-कभी थोड़ा नुकसानदेह भी हो सकता है। लेकिन कारनामा अलग चीज़ है। वह ऐसा काम है जिसमें हर कोई शामिल हो चुका होता है।

There's a difference between a caper and a prank. A prank is like playing Ding-Dong-Ditch, you know, you ring the doorbell and then run and hide in the ditch. That's a prank. It has no shelf life, like reassembling the principal's car up on the roof of the gym. It's cute and everything but there's no shelf-life, and it can actually be kind of destructive. But a caper is different. It's something where everybody has made it in.

हमें अपने दुश्मनों के पाँव धोने चाहिए।

We need to wash the feet of our enemies.

If you get a no from somebody, don't say, 'I'm going to take this as some big cosmic signal.' No, you just got a no, deal with it. Just go to the next step.

One thing I do is (and I realize this might sound nuts), every month or so, I try to take like an Etch-a-sketch [so to speak], and I clear my faith. I go to zero, clear the deck. And I start adding things back to my faith, one at a time. What would be the first thing I'd add back? Jesus. It sounds a little bit like a Sunday school answer, but that's what I do. Then what's the next thing? And I'd say, well, loving people. And then the next.

We're all amateurs when it comes to love. Don't be too hard on each other.

चर्च के बारे में मुझे बस इतनी ही बात जाननी काफ़ी है कि यीशु ने उसे चुना है। इसलिए चर्च को यह सलाह देने के बजाय कि अगर वह अपने बालों में यह लगा ले या यहाँ कुछ ऐसा कर ले तो ज़्यादा अच्छी दिखेगी, मुझे लगता है कि यह बेहतर है कि मैं दूल्हे की पसंद का सम्मान करूँ।

That's all the information I need to know about the church, Jesus picked it. And so instead of me telling the church how she would really look better if she had this in her hair, or that over there, I think I'm just respecting the Groom's pick.

जिस काम में आप बहुत बुरे हैं, उसे कम कीजिए और जो आपको अच्छे से आता है, उसे ज़्यादा कीजिए। मुझे नहीं पता कि यह बहुत आसान बात लग रही हो या नहीं, लेकिन यह मेरे लिए काम करती है।

Do less of what you're terrible at and more of what you're good at. I don't know if that sounds too simple, but it's been working for me.

Living a life fully engaged in full of whimsy and the kind of things that love does is something most people plan to do, but along the way they just kind of forget.

आप किसी ऐसे-वैसे से पंगा नहीं लेना चाहते, बल्कि दुनिया में कहीं किसी असली चुनौती से टकराइए और उसकी तरफ दौड़िए। इसलिए दौड़िए क्योंकि अगर आप चूके तो वह मुकाबला आपके बिना ही आगे निकल जाएगा।

You don't want to pick a fight with just the guy at the deli, [you want to] pick a fight somewhere in the world and just run towards it. Run because the fight is going to go on without you if you miss it.

हर दिन ईश्वर हमें ठीक वैसे ही एक रोमांचक सफ़र का निमंत्रण देते हैं। यह कोई ऐसा सफ़र नहीं है जिसके लिए वह हमें कोई सख्त और बंधा-बंधाया कार्यक्रम (इटिनररी) भेजते हैं, बल्कि वह बस हमें आमंत्रित करते हैं। ईश्वर पूछते हैं कि हमने किन चीज़ों से प्यार करना सीखा है, किस चीज़ ने हमारा ध्यान खींचा है, और हमारे द्वारा बनाई गई इस दुनिया की खूबसूरती का अनुभव करने के लिए हमारी आत्मा की उस गहरी, अनकही प्यास को कौन सी चीज़ तृप्त करती है। और फिर, हमारे करीब झुककर, वे फुसफुसाते हैं, "चलो, हम दोनों मिलकर यह करते हैं।"

Every day God invites us on the same kind of adventure. It's not a trip where He sends us a rigid itinerary, He simply invites us. God asks what it is He's made us to love, what it is that captures our attention, what feeds that deep indescribable need of our souls to experience the richness of the world He made. And then, leaning over us, He whispers, "Let's go do that together.

Stand up like a mountain; have faith like a rock; love like an avalanche

अनिश्चितता को अपनाएँ। हमारे जीवन के कुछ सबसे खूबसूरत अध्यायों का शीर्षक बहुत बाद में ही जाकर मिलता है।

Embrace uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won't have a title until much later.

दुनिया यह जान जाएगी कि हम असल में किस पर विश्वास करते हैं, यह देखकर कि हम हकीकत में क्या करते हैं।

The world will figure out what we really believe, by watching what we actually do.

हमें बदलने के लिए वे लोग प्रेरित करेंगे जिनके पास सबसे ज़्यादा प्यार होगा, न कि वे जिनके पास सबसे ज़्यादा जानकारी होगी।

It will be the people with the greatest love, not the most information, who will influence us to change.

यदि हम अपने मक़सद और लक्ष्य को लेकर पूरी तरह समर्पित हैं, तो तुलना करने की आदत हमारा ध्यान कभी नहीं भटका पाएगी।

We won't be distracted by comparison if we're captivated with purpose.

असुरक्षा चाहती है कि हम अपनी असफलताओं का हिसाब रखें; लेकिन अनुग्रह उन्हें याद भी नहीं रखता।

Insecurity wants us to keep track of our failures; grace doesn't even write them down.

निःस्वार्थ प्रेम की कीमत चुकानी पड़ती है; डर इसे वहन नहीं कर सकता, अहंकार इसे समझ नहीं सकता और सच्चे दोस्त इसे कभी नहीं भूलते।

Selfless love is always costly; fear can't afford it, pride doesn't understand it and friends never forget it.

Figure out what fuels your joy, then do lots of that

Love one another. We don't need more instructions; we need more examples.

Don't let not knowing how it'll end keep you from beginning. Uncertainty chases us out into the open where God is waiting.

मैं पहले उन चीज़ों में असफल होने से डरता था जो मेरे लिए वाकई महत्वपूर्ण थीं, लेकिन अब मुझे उन चीज़ों में सफल होने से डर लगता है जिनका कोई महत्व नहीं है।

I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter.
