चीजों को दोबारा मिलाकर पेश करने (रिमिक्स) की मेरी फिल्म-निर्माण शैली मजबूरी में शुरू हुई थी। नब्बे के दशक की शुरुआत में जब मैं यूसी बर्कले में फिल्म थ्योरी का छात्र था, तो वहाँ फिल्म बनाने की कोई सुविधा नहीं थी। फिल्मों के जरिए कहानी कहना सीखने का मेरे पास बस एक ही तरीका था—पुरानी फिल्मों, शुरुआती एनिमेशन फिल्मों, घरेलू वीडियो, साउंड स्लग—यानी जो कुछ भी मेरे हाथ लग जाता था, उसकी सेल्युलाइड रील को दोबारा काटना और जोड़ना।

The only way I learned to tell stories on film was by re-cutting and splicing together celluloid of old movies, early animated films, home films, sound slug - anything I could get my hands on.
