The fatal effects of sin can be removed only by the provision that God has made. The Israelites saved their lives by looking upon the uplifted serpent. That look implied faith. They lived because they believed God's word, and trusted in the means provided for their recover. So to sinner may look to Christ, and live. He receives pardon through faith in the atoning sacrifice. Unlike the inert and lifeless symbol, Christ has power and virtue in Himself to heal the repenting sinner.

Men professing godliness offer their bodies upon Satan's altar, and burn the incense of tobacco to his satanic majesty. Does this statement seem severe? The offering must be presented to some deity. Since God is pure and holy, and will accept nothing defiling in its character, He refuses this expensive, filthy, and unholy sacrifice; therefore we conclude that Satan is the one who claims the honor.

The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people. Like peals of loudest thunder His words roll through the earth. The Israel of God stand listening, with their eyes fixed upward. Their countenances are lighted up with His glory, and shine as did the face of Moses when he came down from Sinai. The wicked cannot look upon them. And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping His Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory.

The love of Christ reaches to the very depths of earthly misery and woe, or it would not meet the case of the veriest sinner. It also reaches to the throne of the eternal, or man could not he lifted from his degraded condition, and our necessities would not be met, our desires would be unsatisfied.

I find myself frequently placed where I dare give neither assent nor dissent to propositions that are submitted to me; for there is danger that any words I may speak shall be reported as something that the Lord has given me. It is not always safe for me to express my own judgment; for sometimes when someone wishes to carry out his own purpose, he will regard any favorable word I may speak as special light from the Lord

Ministers should be Bible students. They should thoroughly furnish themselves with the evidences of our faith and hope, and then, with full control of the voice and their feelings, present these evidences in such a manner that the people can calmly weigh them, and decide upon the evidences presented.

All spiritual things are to be treated with sacred dignity. Humility and meekness are in accordance with the life of Christ, but they are to be shown in a dignified way.

दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी कमी अच्छे इंसानों की कमी है - ऐसे इंसान जिन्हें खरीदा या बेचा न जा सके, ऐसे इंसान जो अपनी अंतरात्मा से सच्चे और ईमानदार हों, ऐसे इंसान जो पाप को उसका सही नाम देने से न डरें, ऐसे इंसान जिनकी अंतरात्मा कर्तव्य के प्रति उतनी ही वफादार हो जितनी उत्तर दिशा की ओर सुई (कम्पास की), ऐसे इंसान जो आसमान भले ही गिर पड़े पर सच्चाई के लिए डटे रहें।

The greatest want of the world is the want of men - men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.

We need to have far less confidence in what man can do and far more confidence in what God can do for every believing soul. He longs to have you reach after Him by faith. He longs to have you expect great things from Him. He longs to give you understanding in temporal as well as in spiritual matters. He can sharpen the intellect. He can give tact and skill. Put your talents into the work, ask God for wisdom, and it will be given you.

याद रखें कि आप कभी भी उस मानक से ऊंचे स्तर पर नहीं पहुँचेंगे जिसे आप खुद तय करते हैं। इसलिए अपना लक्ष्य ऊंचा रखें, और कदम-दर-कदम, भले ही इसके लिए दर्दनाक प्रयास, आत्म-त्याग और बलिदान क्यों न करना पड़े, प्रगति की सीढ़ी के आखिरी छोर तक चढ़ें।

Remember that you will never reach a higher standard than you yourself set. Then set your mark high, and step by step, even though it be by painful effort, by self-denial and sacrifice, ascend the whole length of the ladder of progress.

The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to His perfect nature.

मसीह में जीवन शांति का जीवन है। भावनाओं का कोई उमाद भले ही न हो, लेकिन एक स्थायी शांतिपूर्ण भरोसा होना चाहिए। आपकी उम्मीद आपमें नहीं है; वह मसीह में है। आपकी कमजोरी उनकी ताकत से जुड़ी है, आपकी अज्ञानता उनकी बुद्धिमत्ता से, आपकी लाचारी उनकी अमर शक्ति से जुड़ी है... अपने मन को उनके प्रेम पर, उनके चरित्र की सुंदरता और पूर्णता पर टिके रहने दें।

A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding peaceful trust. Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ. Your weakness is united to His strength, your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might....Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection of His character.

God is the source of life and light and joy to the universe. Like rays of light from the sun, like the streams of living water bursting from a living spring, blessings flow out from Him to all His creatures. And wherever the life of God is in the hearts of men, it will flow out to others in love and blessing.

सच्चा प्रेम कोई उग्र, भड़कने वाला और अदूरदर्शी आवेग नहीं है। इसके विपरीत, यह एक शांत और गहरा भाव है। यह केवल बाहरी दिखावे से परे देखता है और केवल आंतरिक गुणों से आकर्षित होता है। यह समझदार और पारखी होता है, और इसकी निष्ठा वास्तविक तथा स्थायी होती है।

True love is not a strong, fiery, impetuous passion. It is, on the contrary, an element calm and deep. It looks beyond mere externals, and is attracted by qualities alone. It is wise and discriminating, and its devotion is real and abiding.

All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work with Christ. And if we consent, He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will, that when obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined and sanctified, will find its highest delight in doing His service. When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him, our life will be a life of continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us.

Workers for Christ are never to think, much less to speak, of failure in their work. The Lord Jesus is our efficiency in all things; His Spirit is to be our inspiration; and as we place ourselves in His hands, to be channels of light, our means of doing good will never be exhausted. We may draw upon His fulness, and receive of that grace which has no limit.

A Christian reveals true humility by showing the gentleness of Christ, by being always ready to help others, by speaking kind words and performing unselfish acts, which elevate and ennoble the most sacred message that has come to our world.

If the life we live in this world is wholly for Christ, it is a life of daily surrender.

As the flower turns to the sun, that the bright beams may aid in perfecting its beauty and symmetry, so should we turn to the Sun of Righteousness, that Heaven's light may shine upon us, that our character may be developed in to the likeness of Christ.

There are Christians who think and speak altogether too much about the power of Satan. They think of their adversary, they pray about him, they talk about him, and he looms up greater and greater in their imagination. It is true that Satan is a powerful being; but, thank God, we have a mighty Saviour, who cast out the evil one from heaven. Satan is pleased when we magnify his power. Why not talk of Jesus? Why not magnify His power and His love?

It is Satan's work to fill men's hearts with doubt. He leads them to look upon God as a stern judge. He tempts them to sin, and then to regard themselves as too vile to approach their heavenly Father or to excite His pity. The Lord understands all this. Jesus assures His disciples of God's sympathy for them in their needs and weaknesses. Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, not a grief pierces the soul, but the throb vibrates to the Father's heart.

Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.

The intelligence displayed by many dumb animals approaches so closely to human intelligence that it is a mystery. The animals see and hear and love and fear and suffer. They use their organs far more faithfully than many human beings use theirs. They manifest sympathy and tenderness toward their companions in suffering. Many animals show an affection for those who have charge of them, far superior to the affection shown by some of the human race. They form attachments for man which are not broken without great suffering to them.

Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members. . . . While the Lord brings into the church those who are truly converted, Satan at the same time brings persons who are not converted into its fellowship. While Christ is sowing the good seed, Satan is sowing the tares. There are two opposing influences continually exerted on the members of the church. One influence is working for the purification of the church, and the other for the corrupting of the people of God.

A modest, godly woman will dress modestly. . . The one who is simple and unpretending in her dress and in her manners shows that she understands that a true woman is characterized by moral worth.

Pure air, good water, sunshine, the beautiful surroundings of nature...these are God's means for restoring the sick to health.

ऐसा कोई व्यायाम नहीं है जो टहलने (पैदल चलने) की जगह ले सके। इससे रक्त संचार में काफी सुधार होता है। जहाँ भी संभव हो, पैदल चलना बीमार शरीरों के लिए सबसे अच्छा उपाय है, क्योंकि इसमें शरीर के सभी अंगों का उपयोग होता है।

There is no exercise that can take the place of walking. by it the circulation of the blood is greatly improved. Walking, in all cases where it is possible, is the best remedy for the diseased bodies, because in this, all of the organs of the body are brought into use.

False religion may prevail, iniquity may abound, the love of many may wax cold, the cross of Calvary may be lost sight of, and darkness, like the pall of death, may spread over the world; the whole force of the popular current may be formed to overthrow the people of God; but in the hour of greatest peril the God of Elijah will raise up human instrumentalities to bear a message that will not be silenced.

Christ was treated as we deserve that we may be treated as He deserves. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. 'By His stripes we are healed.

Ministers should not pray so loud, and long, as to exhaust the strength. It is not necessary to weary the throat and lungs in prayer. God's ear is ever open to hear the heart-felt petitions of his humble servants, and he does not require them to wear out the organs of speech in addressing him.

चालीस वर्षों तक अविश्वास, बड़बड़ाहट और विद्रोह ने प्राचीन इजराइल को कनान देश में प्रवेश करने से रोके रखा। इन्हीं पापों ने आधुनिक इजराइल के स्वर्गीय कनान में प्रवेश में भी देरी की है। दोनों ही मामलों में परमेश्वर की प्रतिज्ञाओं में कोई कमी नहीं थी। यह अविश्वास, सांसारिक जीवन, पवित्रता की कमी और प्रभु के स्वयंभू लोगों के बीच के आपसी झगड़े ही हैं जिन्होंने हमें इतने वर्षों तक पाप और दुःख के इस संसार में रोक रखा है।

For forty years did unbelief, murmuring, and rebellion shut out ancient Israel from the land of Canaan. The same sins have delayed the entrance of modern Israel into the heavenly Canaan. In neither case were the promises of God at fault. It is the unbelief, the worldliness, unconsecration, and strife among the Lord's professed people that have kept us in this world of sin and sorrow so many years

बहुत भड़कीले कपड़े पहनकर या बहुत लापरवाह, बेढंगे तरीके से कपड़े पहनकर खुद को चर्चा का विषय न बनाएं। ऐसे आचरण करें जैसे आप जानते हैं कि स्वर्ग की आँखें आप पर हैं, और आप परमेश्वर की प्रसन्नता या अप्रसन्नता के दायरे में जी रहे हैं।

Do not make yourself the subject of remarks either by being overdressed or by dressing in a lax, untidy manner. Act as though you knew that the eye of heaven is upon you, and that you are living under the approbation or disapprobation of God.

दुनिया की सारी धन-दौलत भी एक नष्ट होती हुई आत्मा को बचाने के लिए पर्याप्त मूल्यवान नहीं है।

All the riches of the world are not of sufficient value to redeem one perishing soul.

काश हमारे पास मसीह का आत्मा कहीं अधिक होता और अहंकार तथा मानवीय विचारों की भावना बहुत कम होती। यदि हम गलती करें, तो वह निंदा और कठोर व्यवहार के बजाय दया के पक्ष में होनी चाहिए।

I wish that we had much more of the Spirit of Christ and a great deal less self, and less of human opinions. If we err, let it be on the side of mercy rather than on the side of condemnation and harsh dealing.

मसीह का जीवन परमेश्वर के प्रेम के दिव्य संदेश से परिपूर्ण जीवन था, और वे इस प्रेम को दूसरों तक प्रचुर मात्रा में पहुँचाने के लिए अत्यधिक लालायित रहते थे। उनके चेहरे पर करुणा झलकती थी, और उनके आचरण की विशेषता अनुग्रह, विनम्रता, सत्य और प्रेम थी। उनके संघर्षरत चर्च के प्रत्येक सदस्य को इन्हीं गुणों को प्रदर्शित करना होगा, यदि वह विजयी चर्च में शामिल होना चाहता है।

The life of Christ was a life charged with a divine message of the love of God, and He longed intensely to impart this love to others in rich measure. Compassion beamed from His countenance, and His conduct was characterized by grace, humility, truth, and love. Every member of His church militant must manifest the same qualities, if he would join the church triumphant.

God has a church upon the earth, who are His chosen people, who keep His commandments. He is leading, not stray offshoots, not one here and one there, but a people. The truth is a sanctifying power, but the church militant is not yet the church triumphant.

The life of Christ was a life of humble simplicity, yet how infinitely exalted was his mission. Christ is our example in all things.

God requires his people to shine as lights in the world. It is not merely the ministers who are required to do this, but every disciple of Christ. Their conversation should be heavenly.
