वे लोग अब यह और न कहें कि भगवान को ही सब कुछ करना चाहिए, हम कुछ नहीं कर सकते, और इस तरह खुद को यह दिलासा देकर भगवान की परवाह किए बिना अपनी आत्मा और मुक्ति के प्रति लापरवाह जिंदगी जीते रहें। बेशक, हालांकि हम यह नहीं कह सकते कि अगर इंसान अपनी प्राकृतिक क्षमताओं का पूरा इस्तेमाल करे जैसा उसे करना चाहिए, तो भगवान की कृपा उसे निश्चित रूप से मिल ही जाएगी, लेकिन फिर भी न्याय के उस अंतिम दिन पापी दुनिया का एक भी पापी ऐसा नहीं होगा जो यह कह सके कि, 'हे प्रभु, आप जानते हैं कि मैंने अपनी तरफ से वह सब कुछ किया जो मैं अपनी आत्मा की मुक्ति और कृपा पाने के लिए कर सकता था, और इसके बावजूद आपने मुझे वह कृपा नहीं दी।'
Let them no more say, God must do all, we can do nothing, and so encourage themselves to live in a careless neglect of God, and of their own souls, and salvation. Most certainly, altho' we cannot say, That if men improve their natural abilities as they ought to do, that grace will infallibly follow, yet there will not one sinner in all the reprobate world, stand forth at the day of judgment, and say, Lord, thou knowest I did all that possibly I could do, for the obtaining grace, and for all that, thou didst withhold it from me.
