मैं ज़िंदगी में नीचे गिर गई हूँ। मैं ऐसी जगह फिसल आई हूँ जहाँ छत नीची है और मेरे हिलने-डुलने के लिए ज़्यादा जगह नहीं है। ज़्यादातर समय मैं इसकी आधी हो चुकी हूँ... मैंने अपनी इस सज़ा को स्वीकार कर लिया है और न तो मातम मनाती हूँ और न ही पीछे मुड़कर देखती हूँ। लेकिन कभी-कभी हालात का यह बदलाव मुझे सब याद दिला देता है। रोज़मर्रा का रूटीन बिखर जाता है और एक नई शुरुआत मुझे अचानक इस बात का अहसास करा देती है कि मैं क्या बन गई हूँ -

बुरी घटनाएँ क्यों घटती हैं? शिक्षात्मक कारणों से, ताकि हम अल्लाह की ताक़त का अनुभव कर सकें, नरक की एक झलक पाकर उससे डर सकें, ताकि हम उससे पनाह माँगने का अभ्यास कर सकें और जब राहत मिले तो उसकी दया के लिए शुक्रिया अदा कर सकें। अँधेरे की रचना इसलिए की गई ताकि पौधों की तरह हम भी रोशनी के लिए तड़प सकें और उसकी ओर मुड़ सकें।

Why do bad things happen? For pedagogical reasons, so that we can experience the power of Allah, catch a glimpse of Hell and fear it, so that we can practice seeking refuge in Him and, when relief comes give thanks to His mercy. Darkness was created so that, like plants, we could yearn and turn to the light.
