मेरे लिए पानी के बहुत सारे मायने हैं। मेरा मानना है कि इंसान बिल्कुल पौधों की तरह होते हैं। वे पानी के बिना ज़िंदा नहीं रह सकते, वरना सूख जाते हैं। इंसान भी प्यार और अन्य पोषण के बिना अंदर से सूख जाता है। मेरी फ़िल्मों में आप जितना ज़्यादा पानी देखेंगे, समझ लीजिए कि किरदारों की ज़िंदगी में किसी खालीपन को भरने और खुद को फिर से तरोताज़ा करने की ज़रूरत उतनी ही ज़्यादा है।

Human beings, without love or other nourishment, also dry up. The more water you see in my movies, the more the characters need to fill a gap in their lives, to get hydrated again.

However, as a director, I have strict control over the way they express their personalities. I don't want them to go beyond what I need from them, but I also don't want them to underplay. So I modulate their performances very closely, within a certain range of expression.
