एक जीवविज्ञानी होने के नाते, मुझे यह स्वीकार करना होगा कि मैं यह नहीं समझ पाया हूँ कि जीवन की शुरुआत कैसे हुई... मेरा मानना है कि जीवन की शुरुआत केवल एक क्रियाशील कोशिका के स्तर पर होती है। सबसे आदिम कोशिकाओं के लिए भी कम से कम कई सौ अलग-अलग विशिष्ट जैविक वृहद-अणुओं (मैक्रो-मॉलिक्यूल्स) की आवश्यकता हो सकती है। इतनी जटिल संरचनाएं अपने आप कैसे एक साथ आ गईं, यह मेरे लिए एक रहस्य बना हुआ है। एक रचयिता, यानी ईश्वर के अस्तित्व की संभावना, मेरे लिए इस समस्या का एक संतोषजनक समाधान पेश करती है।

The most primitive cells may require at least several hundred different specific biological macro-molecules. How such already quite complex structures may have come together, remains a mystery to me. The possibility of the existence of a Creator, of God, represents to me a satisfactory solution to this problem.
